What's your favorite Harryhausen moment? Mine is Jason and the Argonauts.

As I child I was taken by his fairy tale shorts, but it was "7th Voyage of Sinbad" that took me to another world, as Willis O'Brien's "King Kong" had done before it. Then I saw "Mighty Joe Young" and caught Harryhausen's name again. From that point on I watched as each of his films hit the screen. I am old enough to have seen all of them in the theater, where the magic was most powerful. As a writer and film maker he was a spark that fueled my imagination like few others ever did. Goodbye sir, you brought us all the greatest gift ever - - Wonder!

A true craftsman; maintained healthy outlook (contrast to unfortunate O'Brien) to live to see how appreciated by his fans he was, appreciated the world of fandom; a film buff as were his pals Forrest J. Ackerman, Ray Bradbury, first fanboys to inspire future generations of fans and creators. The Beast (of 20,000 Fathoms fame) grabbing the cop; UFOs destroying Washington D.C.; the Ymir from Venus is my personal favorite among his creations.

I'm with you - I saw JATA in the theater when I was a little kid, and the giant bronze warrior the argonauts fought, filled with what? lava? boiling water? scared the crap out of me. I was haunted for days.
